The term Illusion refers to a distortion of the senses. Generally shared by most people, illusions distort our perception of reality. Usually associated with a belief system consisting of societal values of authority, wealth, status, and reputation, our views of power greatly impact our relationships. Power is a privilege that a select few have. When this force involves imposing one’s will over others forms a dangerous illusion. This distortion of power perverts justice and equality. In this mixed-media collage, societal perceptions surrounding subliminally induced notions of power are contrasted with images of eyes symbolizing knowledge, perception, truth, and awareness in a world blinded by the illusions of power. Ultimately, power serves as the invisible hand that constructs our lives.
