An exploration into sustainable textile design, the design is inspired by the shapes and movement in Josipa Stefanic’s Mobili collection (2002-2009). This jacket is created using the technique of fabric slashing and quilting. Recognizing the environmental destruction denim production produces, the use of new denim is limited and explores sustainable methods of textile production, such as upcycling pre-existing textiles and reworking second-hand jeans. Upcycled fabric scraps and scarves purchased from second-hand stores are cut to ribbons and quilted between two denim layers. The top layers are slashed. Once the machine washed and dried, the distressed textures spill over the lines and create movement.
